Bears fall in holiday home action

Before enjoying their week off for Thanksgiving, the Brewer Bears had some business to take care of as they took on Stephenville last Monday.  With the gym floors being redone at the high school, the game was held at Brewer Middle School.

After a shaky opening few minutes, the Bears got on track and opened up a nice lead.  Up by 4 points at the end of the first quarter, Brewer used superior offensive rebounding to stretch that lead to as much as 10 in the second quarter.  They lead 21 – 12 at halftime.

Things took a turn as the second half got underway.  The Bears were held scoreless for the first four minutes of the third quarter.  Meanwhile, Stephenville went on an offensive tear, pulling ahead for the first time since the opening minutes of the contest.

At the end of the third, Brewer was down 33 – 29.  There were several miscues and missed shots, but what doomed Brewer in the second half was their inability to hit from beyond the arc.  They continually got great looks at 3 point shots, but no matter how many times they tried, they couldn’t get them to fall.

The Bears got within 2 points during the final quarter, but couldn’t quite overcome being outscored 21 – 8 in the third.  Brewer lost 44 – 35.

The only Brewer player to break 10 points in the game was Dylan Vilaros, who finished with 11.
