A motor vehicle accident in west Fort Worth near the Normandale Place apartments quickly escalated into a hazardous materials call after a vehicle hit a gas meter this past week. 

The ruptured gas line caused an immediate evacuation of approximately 100 units in the area. Eight fire units responded to the scene to monitor and mitigate the situation.

Red Cross was on the scene as well to assist the residents that were temporarily displaced.

Atmos Energy crews were on the scene for several hours making the repairs to the pipe.

Investigation to determine illness underway

Fort Worth firefighters and emergency crews are investigating what made at least 16 adults ill at a children’s store in Southwest Fort Worth.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. this past Saturday, emergency crews responded to calls at buy buy BABY store in the 4600 block of Southwest Loop 820 in Fort Worth. Both customers and employees between the ages of 20-40 reported feeling dizzy and nauseated.

The patients were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Three individuals were released at the scene.
