Chemicals dumped near store requires hazmat team

Fort Worth Police kept workers and customers away from the store while the chemicals were contained.

Fort Worth Police and Fire were called to the 7-Eleven convenience store in the 9900 block of White Settlement Road around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Dispatch call records stated that an unknown person had dumped some bottles and tubes with chemicals near the dumpster area located on the east side of the store. The report also stated that the chemicals were starting to smoke and that it was possible that the items were used for a methamphetamine lab.

At around 3:30 p.m. a hazardous material team arrived on scene to dispose of the chemicals. Several individuals suited up in all white hazmat gear with breathing apparatuses carefully collected the bottles and tubes and disposed of them in large barrels.

The store was temporarily closed for the afternoon and all entrances blocked as police escorted store personnel to an outer edge of the store property for safety. Additional information was not available from the Fort Worth Police Department at this time.
