Two Benbrook police officers resigned Sunday after Fort Worth police launched a criminal investigation into the officers’ involvement in a hit and run Saturday.
Benbrook police began its own administrative investigation into the two officers, who have not been identified, said Benbrook Police Chief James Mills. One of the officers had worked for the department for 16 years and the other for 17 years, reports of the incident stated.
Fort Worth police responded to a major accident at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Ridgmar Boulevard and the Interstate 30 westbound service road, according to a press release. A red 2006 Dodge truck collided with a black 2012 Lincoln SUV.
The driver and passenger of the truck fled the scene. Four people were in the SUV, and several were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to reports.
Officers were unable to find the truck’s occupants but were able to identify the vehicle’s owner.
The Fort Worth Police Traffic Investigation Unit is leading the investigation.
