Westbound Interstate 30 was a parking lot for several hours Friday night in far west Fort Worth, the result of a couple tractor-trailer rigs wrecking out on the icy pavement.
At 10:30 p.m., a police spokesman said officers and wrecker trucks had been trying to clear the mess for about four hours. And he expected the work to last for at least two more hours.
The bottleneck stretched between Linkcrest Drive and Chapel Creek Boulevard.
It wasn’t the only slippery scene of wrecks Friday night on Fort Worth highways, but at 11 p.m., it was the worst. Police and stranded motorists were stuck in frigid temperatures in the upper 20s.
The bone-chilling cold was the result of a massive ice storm that swept into North Texas Thursday night and Friday morning. Cold air and slick roads were expected to last through the weekend, officials said.
