The uneven brick sidewalk in front of City Hall has been discussed several times in recent years. During budget talks in late 2013, council members and city staff again brought up the dangers of leaving the sidewalk as is, justifying the expense of replacing it as being much cheaper than dealing with potential issues if someone ever fell on the existing sidewalk. The new sidewalk has now been installed, as the past week saw the old sidewalk ripped out and replaced. The finishing touches were being put into place Tuesday, and the new sidewalk will contain red brick accents.
The total cost of the new sidewalk is around $16,000, which includes more lighting along the sides. City Manager Linda Ryan said the additional lighting will provide more security for City Hall.
