Tensions between the City of White Settlement and Chesapeake Energy reached an all time high last week when the City Council voted to deny six new drilling permits to Chesapeake.

The troubles for Chesapeake reach beyond the City of White Settlement, however, as last week the Fort Worth School District filed a lawsuit against Chesapeake.  The suit alleges that Chesapeake improperly deducted its own expenses from royalties that were due to be paid to the district and taxpayers.

This lawsuit joins similar suits that have been filed against Chesapeake by the City of Fort Worth, the City of Arlington, the Arlington School District, and some prominent Fort Worth residents.  Adding another headline to this issue last week was a suit filed against Chesapeake by The Fort Worth Star Telegram newspaper, who also claim Chesapeake is improperly deducting their own costs from royalties.
