A White Settlement Independent School District custodian was murdered during an early morning break-in this past Sunday morning. James Bowling, 56, was killed and another man, Don Keaton, 82, was seriously injured around 2 a.m. Sunday. A suspect was found nearby in a pickup truck shortly after officers arrived at the residence in the 2900 block of Cortez Drive, which is just south of I-30 and east of Las Vegas Trail.
The suspect was identified as Miguel Hernandez, 29, and he is currently being held at the Mansfield Jail for five outstanding warrants.
Bowling worked as a custodian at Brewer High School. The district released this statement regarding Bowling’s death.
“We are all shocked and saddened by the loss of our team member. James will always be remembered as a hard worker with a friendly smile and willingness to help with anything to better Brewer High School. We are glad we had the opportunity to get to know him the last five years. He will be terribly missed by all of us. Our prayers are with his family and friends.”
Bowling was named support staff member of the month last September. The district website said Bowling was the heartbeat of the school and would do anything for anyone in need on the campus.
