After a heartbreaking round one playoff loss last season, expectations are high for the Brewer Bears Varsity Basketball team as they embark on their 2014/2015 season. Taking on Lake Dallas at home on Tuesday, the Bears looked ready to live up to those expectations as they pulled away in the second half with a convincing performance.

Before the Bears were able to establish a lead, they first had to go blow for blow with Lake Dallas throughout the first half of the game. The action was fast and furious, but a number of near miss shots hindered Brewer’s ability to seize control of the game. They went into halftime down 20 – 19.

The Brewer dominance began early in the second half as the team went on a 5 – 0 run to start the third quarter. It was a lead Brewer would never give back as returning standout player Yanni Noulas came alive underneath the basket, scoring again and again. Alex Bagg also heated up, and after maturing over last season he appears poised to be a big part of the Bears offense this year. Malcolm Davis kept the Brewer shooters supplied with the ball as he dominated the glass and pulled in rebound after rebound.

Moving into the fourth quarter, Brewer opened up a 15 point lead. They won by a final score of 47 – 37.

The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday night at Brewer High School. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm as they take on the visiting Arlington Heights.
