Our neighbors to the West are headed back to “Jerry World” for the second consecutive year after the Bearcats continued its impressive march through the playoffs this past Saturday in the class 5A Division I state semifinal, putting up a dominating 44-14 victory over Tyler John Tyler at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.

Aledo (14-1 overall) will now face the  Temple in next Saturday’s 5A Division I title game at noon at AT&T Stadium.

Aledo controlled the contest from the start, using its bruising ground game and physical defense to roll to a 24-7 halftime lead.

Ryan Newsome, Luke Bishop (197 total yards, two touchdowns) and Jess Anders all had first half touchdowns for Aledo. The Anders touchdown, a 30-yard scoring catch from Bishop, came with 12 seconds left in the half and kept the momentum on Aledo’s side.

The second half saw Aledo keep the pressure on, as a 9-yard touchdown by Isaiah Mallory (84 yards rushing) pushed the lead to 30-7.

John Tyler (12-3 overall) got back on the board with a 9-yard run by Geovari McCollister early in the fourth quarter, but Aledo answered with scores by Jonathan Esquivel and Anders to put the contest away.

Anders finished with 111 yards rushing and two scores for Aledo, while Bishop rolled up 197 total yards and two touchdowns.
