The new rules for cell phone use are now in effect for drivers in White Settlement.  The City Council voted unanimously earlier this month to pass the ban on texting and internet use of cell phones while operating a vehicle.  The ban went into effect yesterday and carries a fine of $200 for violators.
These new rules have been misreported elsewhere, but City Manager Jim Ryan confirmed with The Grizzly Detail that this is not a full cell phone usage ban, but only a ban on texting and internet usage of cell phones while driving.  Cell phones can still be used to make and receive phone calls while driving, even without the assistance of a hands free setup.  The only exception to this is in active school zones, where cell phones can only be used if they are fully hands free.
