Lady Bears take on the Ladycats as playoffs continue this Friday night

Lady Bears blast their way through round one

by A.C. Hall

Anyone who missed the offensive power of the Lady Bears during the regular season got a chance to see it up close and personal last week as Brewer put on a power hitting clinic in a round one sweep of Grapevine.  The Lady Bears never even needed a full game to win the series, ending game one early with an 11 – 0 victory and ending game two early with a 13 – 3 victory.  The first round victory marks the second year in a row the Lady Bears have claimed the Bi-District Championship.
It’s hard to imagine anything more impressive than the Lady Bears dominant first round sweep, but stepping into their path next are the defending State champions, Aledo.  The Lady Bearcats are coming off a powerful playoff win of their own, getting through their one game first round series in just three innings with a score of 19 – 0.  Aledo is undefeated so far this season and also well rested, playing an abbreviated schedule after several of their non-district games were canceled due to weather.
Fans of softball will not want to miss this second round series as two of the most explosive offenses in the state face off.  This heavyweight fight for the Area Championship is set for Friday night at Chisholm Trail High School at 7:00 pm.  With possible rain in the forecast there’s a possibility the game will be pushed to Saturday afternoon.  Any changes will be announced by the WSISD at their website.
