Blue skies, dry dirt welcome community to school ground breaking

Westpark ES Groundbreaking

After two delays because of stormy weather, the groundbreaking ceremony for Fort Worth ISD’s new Westpark Elementary School finally took place on Thursday, June 4.
Busloads of school children, a JROTC Color Guard, Board of Education members, City of Benbrook council members and school district officials were on hand to welcome citizens to the new site.
“This groundbreaking is an important part of the future of the City of Benbrook and the Fort Worth ISD,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Patricia Linares. “We wanted as many parents and neighbors as possible to be able to share in this special occasion so we waited for a better weather day and today was perfect.”
The Westpark project is part of the Capital Improvement Program approved by voters in November 2013 and is the second complete new school authorized under the plan. Total cost of the new 84,400 square foot school is estimated to be $15.6 million and it will accommodate 625 students.
The current Westpark Elementary will be incorporated into the Benbrook Middle/High School campus.
