Although the Brewer Bears were shut out in the first half, the offense kept coming hard in the second half scoring 24 points against the #1 state ranked Bearcats of Aledo. The Bear defense gave up 67 points to the Bearcats, but they took a “never say die” attitude and fought hard against a tough rival. Bearcat fans said this was the toughest team played since their District opener against Mansfield Legacy. The final score of the game was Aledo 67, Brewer 24, but the point spread did not tell the whole story of the fierce Bear play all throughout the game.
The Bears compiled 17 first downs on the night and did a much better job controlling penalties with only 3 for 30 yards. Quarterback Carson Ingram was 8 for 16 for 101 yards passing. He also rushed 16 times for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jarrett Morse was 3 for 4 for 6 yards passing on the night and carried the ball 8 times for 4 yards rushing. Bryce Miller carried the ball 13 times for 115 yards and 1 touchdown while Curtis Taylor carried the ball 7 times for 42 total yards. On the receiving end, Jahrad Taylor caught 3 passes for 47 yards, Oscar Trevino had 1 for 11 yards, J Cartwright had 1 for 30 yards, Zane Whiteside had 2 for 15 yards and Alex Kemp caught 4 for 4 total yards. Up next, the Bearcats clash with the Northwest Texans in a 5A Region I District 6 match on Friday that will determine the district champion. Aledo will attempt to move on its 8-0 season record and the Texans enter the match with a 8-0 record after their 57-14 district win over Chisholm Trail.
The Bears (2-6) will now prepare for their match against Azle. The Hornets enter the 5A Region I District 6 match with a 2-6 record. In their last match, Azle was crushed by V.R. Eaton in a 55-34 upset. Let’s go Bears!
