Last second shot sinks Lady Bears in close game

A feisty Lady Bear team scratched and clawed to the bitter end as Chisholm Trail sank a shot with less than a second on the clock to win a Class 5A, District 6 game 38-37 at Brewer High School on Tuesday night. Continue reading “Last second shot sinks Lady Bears in close game”

Bears battle Wildcats in playoff game

The Dunbar Wildcats (19-11) stayed one step ahead of the Brewer Bears (18-14) in the Region 1 Bi-district game Tuesday night at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth. Dunbar held a small lead over the Bears at the end of each period and held off a late surge by Brewer to win 55-48. Senior Richard Juarez led the Bears with 26 points on the night. This is the fourth year in a row the Bears have made it into the post-season.

The Brewer Bears are having a dominant season as they continue to work their way through opponents and remain at or near the top of the district standings.  That dominance continued through nearly the entire game Tuesday night against the Denton Broncos.  Brewer moved the ball with ease, setting up and hitting good shots for the entire first half.  Up by 12 at halftime, the Bears were poised to add another victory to their impressive district record.   Continue reading “Bears lead crumbles late”

Basketball season tips off

The boys basketball season got underway at BHS on Friday night as the Bears welcomed in Cleburne.  Featuring a mix of new and returning players, the Bears got off to an energetic start in a first quarter where points were hard to come by.  The teams stayed close throughout, with Brewer leading 8 – 7 at the end of the first.   Continue reading “Basketball season tips off”
