Although the Brewer Bears were shut out in the first half, the offense kept coming hard in the second half scoring 24 points against the #1 state ranked Bearcats of Aledo. The Bear defense gave up 67 points to the Bearcats, but they took a “never say die” attitude and fought hard against a tough rival. Bearcat fans said this was the toughest team played since their District opener against Mansfield Legacy.  The final score of the game was Aledo 67, Brewer 24, but the point spread did not tell the whole story of the fierce Bear play all throughout the game. Friday night’s varsity football game at Brewer High School had dual importance.  First, it was the opening contest in the district portion of the team’s schedule.  While the Bears have looked good in their three pre-district games, it’s these next seven district contests that will determine if they finally break the long standing post season drought.  Secondly, the game on Friday night was homecoming.  Fans packed the stadium to celebrate what turned out to be a nice Brewer victory. Starting the season off on the right note can go a long way towards a beautiful year, but that didn’t happen for the Brewer Bears.  Going up against Arlington Heights last week on the season opener, Brewer struggled to get much going on either side of the ball as the game slowly but surely spiraled out of control.   Continue reading “Bears look to rebound against Cougars”

The Lake Worth Bullfrogs have a new leader this year as Keri Timmerman was named Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for the Bullfrogs on July 23.  Timmerman was previously an Assistant Head Football coach at Grapevine High School.  A major thing Coach Timmerman brings to the table is experience coaching at the college level, as he’s worked at both Hardin Simmons and McMurray Universities.  This college coaching experience puts Timmerman in a position to offer unique insight into the college recruiting process for the athletes in Lake Worth.  Beyond football, Timmerman has also coached soccer, softball, power lifting, basketball, and track.
